During the process of creating a work, I don't know whether I am shaping myself or the image on the canvas. Every time I pick up ink and soak my canvas with water or benzine, it feels as though I am reminding myself of who I want to become, practicing the character and way of being I aspire to—someone willing to surrender to the turbulence of existence, to accept uncertainty and unpredictable events, and still make my own mark.
I don't know whether I am living my paintings or painting my life.
